While competitors such as Volkswagen Group and General Motors plan to go big on battery-electric vehicles, the Japanese automaker said alternatives such as plug-in hybrid and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles must be included in "the pursuit of lower carbon," as consumer needs vary greatly.
